Mention NZ sea kayaking tour adventures, and one place rules as the country’s most visited New Zealand vacation destination. Kaiteriteri enjoys a reputation for premiere New Zealand sea kayaking holidays at Abel Tasman National Park. The park is world renowned for beautiful sheltered coastline environment — most protected on the entire coast — featuring exceptional wildlife amidst breathtaking, intensely colored scenic paradise. Kaiteriteri New Zealand lies on the park’s southern end and features, top swimming beaches on stretches of golden sands, surfers’ paradise, and stunning vistas and bay coves suited for spectacular sea kayaking adventure. Only one sea kayak tour company operates directly off this beach. Kaiteriteri runs sea kayaking expeditions that range from two hours to five days, truly offering appeal for everyone. A mere ten-minute paddle brings visitors to an island inhabited by fur seals. Short family kayak packages are available, as are half day guided or unguided rentals. Encounter seals up close and personal paddling through peaceful lagoons on a full day trip at Tonga Marine Reserve. “Soul Food” is the sea kayaking adventure outfit’s unique signature trip and the only Abel Tasman tour of its kind that explores remote and untouched regions of park coastline. Other eight-hour tours explore Pinnacle Island sea colony while paddling south through tidal lagoons; beaches, islands, caves, and Split Apple Rock in the Astrolabe area of the park; and one day kayak and walk excursions to see beaches and seals. There’s also more to Kaiteriter than sea kayaking. Boat excursions offer sightseeing and Abel Tasman coastal track for backpackers’ land exploration. Huge tidal variations need to be considered when walking the track, allowing foot passage to check out lagoons two hours either side of high tide. Good spots to investigate are Frenchmans Bay, Falls River, Ngaoio Bay Lagoon, Torrent Bay, Mosquito Bay, and the highlight, Shag Harbour Lagoon. Low tidal fluctuations allow passage to and from Awaroa estuary and Onetahuti, two or four hours either side, respectively. These do not have a high tide route. There are four other beaches in the area, as well as miniature golf and Awesome Lookout, an old Maori Pa site. Water taxi rides motor to Tonga Island Marine Reserve and Seal Colony. New Zealand accommodations in the area include chalets, motels, backpackers lodges, holiday homes, hilltop bed and breakfast establishments, and a motor camping ground with cabins and campsites. Camp right in Abel Tasman in a hut or lodge run by the Department of Conservation. |
