It’s always a scream in Queenstown New Zealand, where a sunset over Lake Wakatipu, drunken backpacker partying the night away, or daredevil bungee jumper are bound to leave shrilling traces in this wild and crazy city environment that’s earned the reputation as “Adventure Capital of the World.” Easy access to Queenstown flights at the nearby airport (6 km. away), car rentals, regional bus shuttles and tours, and a staggering array of accommodation choices spell convenience and New Zealand vacation tourism bonanza. Once there, the hardest challenge is fitting everything in that you want to do in this holiday resort setting in the appropriately named Remarkables mountain range. Queenstown ski, jet boat, tramping, bungee thrills, tramping and more offer irresistible attraction. Compact, sophisticated, and picturesque bayside downtown Queenstown New Zealand has restaurants, cafes, wineries, bars and locally brewed beer, live jazz, DJs, excellent shopping, art galleries, and incredible scenery for diversion and relaxation in a permanently buzzing atmosphere. The list of activities is near endless and includes aerobatic flights, casinos, climbing, diving, cultural landmarks, flightseeing, golf, hot air balloons, 4WD adventures, canyon swings, mountain biking, fishing, snow skiing, trails, and much more. The Queenstown New Zealand Skyline Gondola provides the best views in the area just a 5-minute walk from downtown. The year round attraction takes a silent, relaxing ride over the city and up to the Skyline complex on Bob’s Peak with incredible views of The Remarkables and Lake Wakatipu. Kiwi Birdlife Park is a unique, immensely popular attraction that flaunts native forest, birds (including kiwi, of course), and active conservation. Park visitor entrance fees help support breeding programs for endangered New Zealand bird species. Highlights include great NZ restaurant fare, and early Maori hunting village, and native garden trail. Historic Arrowtown is an old goldmining town situated 25 minutes northeast of Queenstown New Zealand. In the heart of scenic southern lakes ski area, it attracts visitors from all over the globe with four very distinct seasons. Lake Wanaka is a great place to share a shore picnic lunch spot with sea gulls diving into the water for their own meals. This area, 100 km from Queenstown, is known for Southern Alps walking and hiking wild adventures, skydiving and flightseeing, fishing, and adventure tours. A 10-minute drive from Wanaka is Lake Hawea, a year-round holiday resort that’s earned a reputation as one of New Zealand’s most stunning lakes. World class skiing is the star there. Fishing, water activities, climbing, hunting, and area attractions, such as top rated Rippon Vineyard Winery, are other reasons to visit Lake Hawea. Between Wanaka and Queenstown New Zealand is Cardrona Alpine Resort, known for great skiing and snowboarding due to its higher elevation in a friendly atmosphere. It’s doubtful that you’ll find more overwhelming natural beauty than Doubtful Sound, the second largest of 14 fiords in Fiordland National Park. The power of nature is felt in this remote and peaceful wilderness. The combination of beauty and zaniness makes Queenstown a temptation for any daredevil traveler. But remember to stay safe while seeking thrills. Purchase travel insurance before you engage in any intense athletic adventure. |
