Beach Beauty and Protected Enviroment Make Up Karikari Peninsula New Zealand

The furthest northwest part of Doubtless Bay off the Pacific Ocean is the Karikari Peninsula New Zealand. Elevated land offers spectacular views of this long narrow piece of beautiful beaches and bays.

A rental car in New Zealand will bring you to the area in four hours from Auckland. The lineup includes the peninsula’s major settlement, Whatuwhiwhi and the smaller one at Rangiputa; Tokerau Beach, the longest in the group; beautiful crescent shaped Matai Bay; sweeping white sand beach of Karikari Bay; and unspoiled Puheke Beach.

Whatuwhiwhi has a dive center, school, general store, gas station, safe beach, and various accommodation options, including a holiday park. World class golf course and resort accommodation at Carrington Club is found near Whatuwhiwhi.

An extensive wetlands restoration project there also reintroduced indigenous plants and trees. The ecosystem is a well protected environment for many animals native to the area.

Also nearby is Karikari Estate Vineyard & Winery. The winery features tastings of award winning New Zealand wines in a stunning Northland setting.

Rangiputa is a picturesque, secondary peninsula settlement overlooking Rangaunu Harbor’s white sands and clear blue waters. It also has a variety of Northland accommodation.

The longest beach on the peninsula is Tokerau Beach. It is 18 meters of surfcasting paradise and a good spot for digging for shellfish. Both Tokerau and Karikari Beaches are known for beautiful white sand and secluded coves.

Matai Bay is considered one of the pure gems of Karikari Peninsula and most idyllic of beaches in New Zealand with picturesque crescent shaped bay coves overlooking the Pacific Ocean. A DOC campground is popular with fisherman and other holiday visitors. The beach offers safe bathing conditions.

Waters surrounding Karikari Peninsula serve as a fisherman’s paradise, with the most world records for striped marlin established off its tip. Renowned boat captains offer deep sea fishing expeditions in search of marlin, snapper, kingfish, and tuna.

Other New Zealand vacation activities on Karikari Peninsula include walking numerous tracks on area farms and private beach, as well as skeet shooting, tennis, golf, bird watching, canoeing, mountain biking, scuba diving, and horseback riding.
