Ahipara is a wonderful place to begin your exploration of New Zealand’s 90 Mile Beach on its northern end. This small town of 1,100 residents is located at the southern end of the beach, and it’s only 14 kilometers away from Kaitaia, New Zealand’s northernmost large town. Ahipara New Zealand is easy and fast to get to, and the area around the town itself will present tourists with fascinating experiences. What can you expect to find near Ahipara? Beautiful weather and excellent recreational opportunities. It never snows on the northern tip of New Zealand, the weather is generally calm, and the skies are beautiful. Visitors will be awestruck by vibrant blue skies during the day and colorful, unforgettable sunsets in the evening. The nearby waters are optimal for surfing and gathering exotic shellfish, while the beach terrain is great for extensive New Zealand outdoor activities. Right near Ahipara is Shipwreck Bay, notorious for all the oceangoing vessels that sank there throughout the ages. When the tide is low and some of the water recedes, you might be able to see the remnants of these ships still resting in the bay. Kauri gum was once a major commodity in the area, and its extraction supported about two thousand people; now the Ahipara Gumfields remain behind as relics of that time, open to visitors along with the kauri forests where the gum was once harvested. Try riding a quad bike along the vast sand dunes to get great exercise and amazing views of rolling hills of sand and beautiful blue waves. Or take a more formal quad bike tour to explore the extensive Ahipara Gumfields Scenic Reserve. The diversity of houses in the area will also amaze tourists. Some houses were designed by master architects and are worth seeing for their elegance and refinement. Other houses are makeshift shanties inhabited by residents who collect seaweed for a living. Tourists who seek to meet new, different, interesting kinds of people and discover how they live will enjoy a trip to Ahipara. The beach near Ahipara is also an excellent setting for a more leisurely New Zealand vacation; it’s ideal for relaxing, sunbathing, going for a calm swim, or walking along and relishing the fine sights and weather. Ahipara is a great destination for outdoor campers, but it also offers more conventional accommodations, including a motel and a comfortable bed-and-breakfast establishment. Ahipara can serve tourists as a temporary campground or as a reliable place to stay as they explore they surrounding area. |
