Travelling Well With Your Pet Dog or Cat

Some people are naturally engrossed with caring for pets and among the pets available, dogs has been the most favorite. No wonder, the saying “dog is the man’s best friend” has been formulated. In our love for our pets we often feel bad leaving them behind during our vacation trips so we end up traveling with these instead. However the comfort of traveling in vehicles may not be as comfortable to our dogs as it is comfortable to us. But definitely we do not want to give our dog rough journey, right? Thus here are some tips that can help you in giving your pet the most wonderful and safe travel possible.

Get Your Pet Used to Travel Beforehand:

First and foremost you should let your dog familiarize itself to short distance travel before getting it to travel long distances. Short trips downtown or around the city or regular visit to its veterinarian are good start. Once your pet has been used to traveling in your vehicle then you can get him to travel extended trips.

Your Pet Should Travel in the Backseat or Rear Compartment of Your Vehicle:

In traveling with your pet, the best possible location where you should position it is at the backseat, properly strapped up. It does not really matter whether your dog is small or big, strapping it up can give it the security it needs against possible bangs and thuds along the way. There are various materials that can be used to tie up the dog but be sure to give it the comfort it deserves. You can go for ordinary carriers or harnesses although pet car seats are already available in case you have the means.

Large Dogs Should Not Be Simply Leashed in Truck Beds:

For dog owners who are traveling in their pick-up truck, dogs leashed in the beds of the truck is a big no. The tendency of dogs to leap is very high as can be witnessed when these see other animals like cats or rabbits and others. If your animal leaps out from your moving and driving vehicle serious injury or worse can result indeed. The object of your affections can be dragged along leading it’s having bruises, wounds, broken bones and worst death.

Don’t Let Your Animal Stick Its Head out of the Window:

Dogs also love sticking their head out of the open window. This should not be permitted because the air contains particulate matter that can get into the eyes of your dog and harm it.

Veterinarians Advice on the Prevention of “Motion Sickness:”

Prevent motion sickness for your dog by feeding it before traveling. Several hours before taking your trip let your dog eat its meal and never ever feed it in your running car. Eating while the car is moving can trigger motion sickness for your dog that can in turn mess your vehicle really bad. You don’t like this, do you?

Take Small Stops Along the Route:

In an extended travel, it is very important to do small stops along the way. This can provide a breather for your dog’s leg muscles as well as your muscles as well preventing muscle pain and fatigue afterwards. Also during these stops let your dog do the potty. It is however very important that you keep its harness secured to keep its movement well-restricted.

Never Leave Your Pet Alone In a Parked Vehicle Alone:

In your parked car, never attempt to leave your dog. It would be very easy for intruders to take it or otherwise it can get really feel so cold after sometime of being alone.

Always Remember Your Pet’s Safety First & Foremost:

After all that has been said and done, remember that your dog’s safety and yours as well is the single most important thing that you should consider in your trip. So take these tips and have a sound and secured trip.
