The North Island of New Zealand is a versatile island that has a lot to offer. In the far north you will find Northland. This area is dominated by Maori settlements and cultural attractions and is known as the “winterless north.” It has a sub-tropical climate and is a major producer of citrus fruit, bananas and avocados for New Zealand. Here you will find lots of great outdoor activities like diving, snorkeling, swimming, boating and sea kayaking. If you are planning a winter New Zealand vacation, make sure you warm up in this area before heading south for the skiing.
In the central part of the North Island you will find the geothermal features that New Zealand is known for. Rotorua is the city you will want to set up base camp at if you are interested in geothermal features like boiling mud pots, volcanoes and hot springs. Also in this region you will find Lake Taupo, Tongariro National Park and several key Maori cultural sites and attractions. In Tongariro National Park you will find some of the tallest peaks in the country including Mount Ruapehu, which is the tallest peak.
In the southern part of the North Island you will find Wellington. This city is where you will want to go if you are interested in modern attractions. Here you will find one of the best collections of night life, shopping, art galleries, museums and restaurants in New Zealand. One of the attractions that you will not want to miss is the Te Papa Museum of New Zealand.
Hey still havent bagged a deer yet but have spotted two hinds in the distance so at least ive seen 1 now!, was just at a place a couple of weekends ago with alot of fresh sign and a very well used /deep trail down to a small creek in dense bush, the creek isnt open and is all covered in by bush. Was just thinking is it worth waithing somewhere in the bush by the trail to the river and hope to see something or shall i stick to finding clearings and slips and using the binos? Any help would be mint
