Marlborough Wineries Are Cherished by Wine Lovers
New Zealand’s Largest Wine Regions: Marlborough

Last week I talked about the smallest wine region in New Zealand, Wairapa. Today, I’d like to talk about the largest, Marlborough. This zone is the best known region in New Zealand for wine making and it is the best place to visit if you want to explore New Zealand’s wine region and you don’t have a lot of time.

Marlborough is known around the world for its Sauvignin Blanc. This is because the grapes grown in this region have a unique flavor. They are zesty and pungent. This gives the wines that are made from these grapes a very lively flavor.

As mentioned above, the most popular wine produced in Marlborough is the Sauvignon Blanc, however, Chardonnays, Pinot Noir and Rieslings are also popular varieties, listed in order of popularity. Recently, the area has also gained attention for its sparkling wines, its red table wines and its white table wines.

If you are interested in a tour of one of the local wineries you have several wineries to choose from. Some of your options include: Allan Scott Wines and Estates, Astrolabe Wines, Churton, Crighton Estate and Eradus Wines, Ltd. As mentioned last week, if you want to tour a local New Zealand winery, you will most likely need to call ahead to schedule a tour, or wait for a special open house event.

New Zealand is a great vacation destination if you enjoy food and drink. The spring and summer months are great times to plan a tour of New Zealand wineries, and summer is the best time for New Zealand outdoor activities that involve wine tasting and food celebrations.
