Happy New Year to current and future New Zealand visitors. If one of your New Year’s resolutions this year is to visit New Zealand then this month is the perfect month to start planning your vacation. If you are worried about the cost of a New Zealand vacation then there are a few ways you can manage the cost.

The first thing you can do to manage the cost of a New Zealand vacation is to first plan out the vacation that you want to have. Identify airplane ticket costs, tours you want to take, travel insurance costs, food and lodging costs. This preliminary itinerary is going to be your guide for looking for deals and money saving opportunities. It will also help you to figure out how much money you need to put aside for your trip.

The second thing that you can do to help you afford a New Zealand vacation is to pay for certain aspects of your trip each month. For example, since the best time of the year to visit New Zealand is between November and March you have between ten and fourteen months to pay for your vacation. This means that you can save money for your airfare one month, pay for your lodging another month and pay for your cruises in the months that follow. When you are planning how you will spread out your payments, you will want to cover the items that need to be paid for first as soon as possible and then spread out the remaining items over the remaining months.

If you spent Christmas in New Zealand and bought most of your holiday gifts in New Zealand you now face an interesting problem, getting everything you bought in New Zealand home. With all of the restrictions associated with air travel and carry-ons, you will most likely need to ship your holiday gifts and vacation treasures back to the U.S. While this sounds like a hassle, it will actually save you a lot of time and trouble on departure day.

To determine what items to ship and what items to take with you on the plane you will want to look at the type of items you have and the amount of space you have in your luggage. First of all, anything that is prohibited from taking on the airplane with you needs to be shipped, such as equipment that you used for your New Zealand outdoor activities. Secondly, if the item is heavy you will want to ship it. Finally, if the item is delicate you will want the seller of the item to ship it to you. They will have the packaging materials required to get your items safely to your home in the U.S. and they will also know what forms to fill out for customs.

If you will be packing and shipping your items yourself then this is what you need to know. First of all you will want to work with a local shipping service. They will be able to help you fill out the appropriate customs’ forms, pack your items so that they meet New Zealand and U.S. requirements and they will also provide you with the packaging that your items need. If you will be leaving in a few days from New Zealand, now is the perfect time to collect the items you want to ship home and find a local shipper to work with.

South Island, New Zealand is a great destination for vacations. If you will be in this region over the holiday season then you will want to pick up gifts for your friends and family back home. However, you will also want to plan special South Island gifts for the people that you are traveling with. Fortunately, there are a lot of great gifts that come from the South Island that you can use to make this holiday season even merrier.

One of the best gifts offered by the South Island is New Zealand wine. Canterbury in particular produces a great selection of white and red wines. You can by New Zealand wine by the bottle or by the case. You can even have these gifts shipped securely back to the United States by the winery. In addition to wines, South Island New Zealand wineries also offer great food baskets and wine baskets. These make great additions to local holiday celebrations.

If you are traveling with a golf lover then consider booking them a special South Island golf package. This can make a great holiday gift, as it will give them the opportunity to gold in New Zealand. Enhance this gift with new golf equipment bought at one of the local golf pro shops.

The final gifts that you can purchase on the South Island are touristy gifts. Scenic calendars of South Island locations, South Island T-shirts and South Island crafts all make great gifts. These gifts will not only be a reminder of your vacation, but they will also be a functional item that you can use to keep track of the days of the year, hold your coffee or wear around the house.

If you are planning on visiting New Zealand’s North Island this month then consider doing your holiday shopping in New Zealand. This country has a great selection of cultural and regional products that will make extra special gifts for the people on your shopping list. However, if you are buying a lot of New Zealand items you will be better off shipping it to the states instead of trying to carry everything on the plane with you.

While on your New Zealand vacation make sure you stop by North Island New Zealand wineries to pick up gifts. Some of the wineries and vineyards you can shop at include A Lyttle Vineyard, the Edbrooke Vineyard, the Dorlers Winery and Bujan Wines. At these vineyards you can buy bottles of New Zealand wines and other gifts that you can ship to people in the states.

Another great New Zealand gift that you can send back to the United States to the people on your shopping list is New Zealand crafts. These crafts can be cultural crafts created by members of the Maori tribes, or they can be made by local crafters. Fortunately, since December is a summer month in New Zealand there are a lot of craft fairs and festivals that you can tour to find great craft gifts to give away.

The final gift idea that you can find on the North Island is geological gifts. The North Island of New Zealand is volcanically active. Here you can find geodes, lava rocks, crystals, gems and other geology products that make great gifts for kids. You can also find geothermal spa products that will intrigue and pamper the special people on your shopping list.

Like I have mentioned in earlier posts, one of the activities that you need to do while on your New Zealand vacation is to take a cruise. New Zealand is a country that has numerous bodies of water that you can explore. In order to truly experience New Zealand, you need to get onto a boat and view the country from the water.

The first type of New Zealand cruises that you can take are ocean cruises. These cruises will follow the coastline of New Zealand and provide you with a unique view of the North and South Islands. There are several cruise lines that offer these types of cruises, including Holland America. Some cruises will start in Australia and take you to New Zealand and back again, while others will originate in New Zealand.

The second type of New Zealand cruises that you can take are fjiord cruises. These cruises will take you through the amazing fjords of New Zealand’s South Island. This is a great option for honeymooners, singles and families.

The final type of New Zealand cruises that you can take are lake cruises. Lake cruises are usually handled by local captains and tour companies. They will provide you with a great view of the unique landscape of New Zealand, as well as provide you with information about the local ecology and geological features.

When you book a New Zealand cruise you need to plan ahead, especially if you are planning an ocean or fjord cruise. For ocean or fjord cruises you will want to book your passage between six and eight months ahead of time. Lake cruises can usually be booked a month in advance, or in some cases, the day of the cruise.

No matter when you visit New Zealand there is always plenty of things to do and things to see. If you will be visiting New Zealand in November of December you are in for a treat. These months are warm and ripe for great outdoor adventures.

There are dozens of tour operators in New Zealand. Some tour operators focus on wilderness adventures where you rough it, while others focus on luxury tours that take you to the urban hot spots or that take you sailing around the best water features the country has to offer. Some of the tours that are available include Auckland tours, Bay of Island tours, dolphin experience tours, sailing tours of the fjords and national park tours.

To select a tour that is right for you, you first need to understand the terminology used to describe the tour. Budget tours are basic tours that cost between $50 and $100 per person per day. First class tours offer more creature comforts and extras and typically range from between $100 and $300 per person per day. A deluxe New Zealand tour typically cost between $200 and $400 per day and offer slightly more perks than the first class tours. The final category of tours is the luxury tour. Luxury tours are designed for the comfort of the vacationer. They usually are all inclusive (excluding air fare).

When you are selecting a tour for your vacation keep in mind that airfare and travel to and from the pick up site are usually not included in the price of the tour.

If you are planning on touring New Zealand this month you have a lot of great festivals and events to choose between. While most people will be feasting on turkey in the United States in a couple of weeks, you could be basking on a beach having a picnic. In order to get an authentic New Zealand vacation experience it is important that you at least stop by one local festival or event during your excursion.

If you will be in New Zealand between November 19 and 23, then make plans to attend the Pacific Rose Bowl Festival. This festival, which is not the same as the Rose Bowl in the United States that is based around a football game, is actually a rose competition. It is open to the public and free of charge. You can find this event in the Hamilton Gardens in Hamilton, New Zealand, which is in the Waikato region. This event is family friendly and offers door prizes and entertainment.

In order to enjoy a local festival or event you need to plan ahead. First you need to understand what the event is and where it is located. Next you will need to figure out when to attend the event and how to get there. Finally, you need to determine how much it will cost to get in to the event and what is available at the event for your family to do.

To find local New Zealand events to attend you can read the community section of a New Zealand paper or you can conduct research online. Travel agents will also be great resources for local events and activities that you can do on your vacation.

Are you planning a New Zealand vacation during this holiday season? If you are then here are some tips that will help you to save money.

Tip No. 1: Travel on Christmas Day

If you fly on Christmas day you can usually get a cheaper ticket then if you buy a ticket for a day or two before Christmas. This tip also works for flying on Thanksgiving day and New Year’s Eve day.

Tip No. 2: Find Lodging Away from the Beach

Beachside resorts are very busy during the holiday season. This is because Christmas in New Zealand occurs during their summer. If you want to save money on your lodging then look for lodging options that are not on the beach. Prices drop significantly when you are about a mile or two away from the beach.

Tip No. 3: Consider Non-Hotel Lodging Options

Another way that you can save money is to stay at a farm stay or bed and breakfast. These establishments will provide you with a cozier holiday atmosphere, better service and will generally be a little bit cheaper than beachfront hotels.

Tip No. 4: Camp Out

If you really want to save money on your lodging during your holiday vacation in New Zealand then camp out. You can camp in a tent, under the stars or in a camper van. When fees are charged for camping spots they are generally less than $10 a night, which can be anywhere from 10 to 20 times cheaper than hotel rooms during the holiday season.

Have fun planning your vacation with the information found on the New Zealand Travelscoop Blog.

Today is Halloween and a fun holiday. If you are spending Halloween in New Zealand you may be surprised that it isn’t as a big a deal as it is in the United States. You will see costumes and candy in the stores, but trick-or-treating isn’t a nationwide tradition like it is in the U.S.

If you are spending Halloween abroad with your kids, provide them with a unique experience. Try visiting the haunted locations in the country, telling ghost stories or visiting a local Maori cultural center to see what ghost legends they have. Have fun with the holiday and educate your family on how different cultures view the supernatural.

If you want a little taste of American Halloween fun then consider holding your own Halloween party in your hotel room or at a campsite. Stock up on candy and wear costumes. Tell scary stories and play games. To give your Halloween party a New Zealand flare, try candies that are unique to New Zealand, or try a Maori treat.

Traveling during a holiday can be both fun and a little stressful. On the fun side you get to experience the holiday form a new perspective. On the stressful side you have to deal with traditions that you are not familiar with, you have to deal with crowds and you have to deal with not having comfort items that you normally use during the Holiday.

To get you into the holiday spirit, check out the Auckland Daily Photo blog to see how Aucklanders celebrate Halloween.
