Lake Taupo is one of my favorite places to visit in New Zealand. If you will be in the area during the Christmas-New Year weeks, then you will have a lot of fun to choose from. There are several concerts, community events and races planned.
The first event that you may want to attend is the Kiwi Summer Adventure Racing Tour. This open event is great fun and will take you from the water to the woods. Non-kayak options and flexible team structures means that just about any one who wants to enter can. This event is help on December 15th and 16th and it is a great warm-up for the holiday festivities to come.
If you have an ear for music then you will want to dress up and get to the Great Lake Centre on December 26 for a concert you will not forget. The Black Seeds will be playing the Centre and will be covering songs from their platinum album.
As we get closer to the New Year make your way back down to the water for fireworks and home town hospitality. On New Year’s Eve bring a blanket and a picnic basket of your favorite treats for a firework display that will ring in the New Year. This is an alcohol free event so it is great for families.
Planning a holiday New Zealand vacation really needs to be done several months in advance. However, the hospitality of the New Zealand people will make last minute arrangements possible.
