Auckland, New Zealand is a favorite destination for people planning a New Zealand vacation. Most arrive excited about exploring this city and getting to the adventures that lie just outside the city’s limits. However, before you leave home you will want to make sure that you are ready to take the best vacation photos of your life as New Zealand is a jewel of a country for photographic opportunities.

The first thing you can do to improve the quality of your vacation photographs is to learn how to use the various features on your camera. You need to read through the camera’s manual so you know how to use various filters, exposure lengths and other features. You will also want to practice using these features.

Next you will want to identify the places in Auckland and the surrounding area that have views or sights that you want to photograph. You can check out a book on Auckland or you can browse through travel brochures. Create a list of places to visit and photograph.

Finally you will want to create a list of all the vacation photographs you would like to take. For example, you may want to take a picture at stops along the way, you may want to take in-flight photographs and you may want to photograph the hotel you will be staying at, local festival events or specific animals and attractions. This list will be used as a guide and checklist. It will help you to remember everything that you want to document on your journey.

I was out in New Zealand last year and took my brand new camera along. Not only is it a good idea to read through the manual, but make sure you visit at the right time of year. Through my poor planning my 2 week holiday was blighted by wet weather so the spectacular holiday photos I promised myself never happened!

    Still a beautiful place though.

Poor weather can give you some great opportunities, if light is flat set your camera to take black and white images, I find I can get much better results that way as there is more contrast.
