South Island, New Zealand Events for April

This is the week to be active in New Zealand. There are a lot of fun and exciting sporting events to participate in. All you have to do is pick one you like!

The first sporting event that you can participate in is the Adidas Xterra Rotorua Festical. This is an off road sporting event for trekkers and extreme runners. The venue for this event is Blue Lake, Rotorua, and it is scheduled for April 12. This is the 6th annual Adidas Xterra Rotorua Festival. Some of the events that are scheduled include: 11 and 21 km trail walk, 11 and 21km trail run and a triathlong. This is a challenging event, but there will be events for novice athletes as well.

If you are a cyclist, then you will want to plan to attend or participate in the Forrest Estate Grape Ride. This is a 101km circuit through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country. The venue for this event is Renwick, Marlborough and about 2,500 participants are expected. Online registration has already closed, but you can still register in person or over the phone.

If you are more comfortable in the water, then you will want to participate in the Trans Taupo Paddle. This event is scheduled for April 12, 2008 and will start at Tokaanu. The 45km race route will take you from Tokaanu through the Mission Bay Reserve to Taupo. The entry fee for this event will be between NZD$50 and NZD$90.
