Hidden on private land on the pass is picturesque Lindis Hotel, accessible only by landowner’s permission.

Though its early gold history can be relived in museums and historic sites, today Central Otago is better known as the scene of a “wine rush” rather than a gold rush. The region is known for its Pinot Noir and many wineries offer tours and tastings. The tracks and trails lead to alpine herb meadows, strange rock formations, and hidden valleys.
