Any tour of New Zealand will be filled with natural wonders, from rugged coastlines to eerie volcanic landscapes, pristine beaches to serene forests. Yet among all these things, tourists and locals alike are quick to recommend Blue Pools Haast Pass New Zealand as a must-see attraction. With its tranquil setting and beautiful scenery, this is sure to be one of the highlights of your New Zealand vacation. Blue Pools, New Zealand is located in the Haast Pass, on the southern island. The Haast Pass is the main gateway between the heart of the island and the world-famous west coast. Anyone traveling between Wanaka and Haast, or other coastal communities like Hokitika, Franz Josef or Greymouth should consider making the trip through the pass, and seeing the beautiful pools along the way. What makes these pools so spectacular? Created through erosion, this series of pools is filled with crystal clear glacial melt. Each is an amazing deep blue, but still one can see straight through to the bottom and have a clear view of the many feeding trout. The play of shadow on the blue water and the green moss covering the white rocks have all helped make this a top destination for tours. Still, Blue Pools, New Zealand would not be so spectacular without the walk leading up to it. From the road, it is a 15 minute trek through the wilderness. The track is covered in gravel, making the walk easy, and kids are sure to love the swing bridge over the Makarora River. Everyone can enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding mountains from the bridge, as well as the silver beech forest all around. One can continue around the local paths for hours, exploring the wilderness. But there are other beauties in the area that are not to be missed. While you’re in the Haast Pass, you can visit places like Fantail Falls and Thunder Creek Falls. There are also nice walks to be had, especially the Makarora Bush Nature walk, which features native forest, and the Haast Pass walk. While the latter can be more grueling and requires shuttling cars, reaching the summit of the pass is rewarding and of course, scenic. Whether you’re in the South Island for New Zealand outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing or just tourism in general, Blue Pools, New Zealand is an attraction worth going out of your way for. You will get to enjoy nature at its finest, and take some great pictures along the way. Blue Pools, New Zealand truly is a must-visit site. |
